The chemical formula of DemeTech’s PGA is (C2H2O2)n. Clinical trials have shown that after two weeks, approximately 84% of DemeTech’s PGA initial strength remained. At four weeks, approximately 23% of DemeTech’s PGA linear tensile strength remained.

POLYDIOXANONE monofilament synthetic absorbable suture is prepared from the polyester, poly (p-dioxanone).

The empirical molecular formula of the polymer is Polydioxanone polymer has been found to be non-antigenic and elicits only a slight tissue reaction during absorption. DemeTech's Polydioxanone is ideal for internal tissues where a long lasting, absorbable suture is preferable.

Composed of synthetic materials, it elicits less reactivity than natural absorbable sutures. However, due to its prolonged absorption period, Polydioxanone may elicit some tissue reactivity.

The safety and effectiveness of POLYDIOXANONE sutures have not been established in neural tissue, adult cardiovascular tissue, or for use in microsurgery.

DemeTech’s Rapid Absorbable has been found to be nonantigenic, eliciting only minimal tissue reactivity during the absorption process.

Due to a lower molecular weight, relative to DemeTech’s PGA or Polyglactin 910, DemeTech’s Rapid Absorbable is able to achieve a faster absorption period than other synthetic absorbable sutures. The absorption time for Rapid Absorbable is 42 to 56 days.

DemeTech’s Silk suture is a non-absorbable, sterile, surgical suture composed of an organic protein called fibroin.

DemeTech’s silk sutures are processed to remove the natural waxes and gums from its origin. As Silk is a natural fiber, it does illicit an acute inflammatory reaction, which is followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue (occurring usually in 14-21 days).

While DemeTech’s silk sutures are not considered absorbable sutures, progressive degradation of its fibers results in the gradual loss of tensile strength within the first year.
